Bestival Toronto returned for the second year this past weekend featuring a great lineup, awesome food choices and a different venue location. Having attended the debut of the Bestival Toronto last year, I was very excited to revisit the festival and the great city of Toronto once again. However, with a different location at Woodbine Park and a slightly less eventful Day 2 lineup, I wondered if Bestival Toronto would be able to top last years succesful debut.
This year, the two headliners of Bestival Toronto were Tame Impala and The Cure. Other artists included were Odesza, Grimes, Porter Robinson, Tchami, and Jamie XX. Much like last year, there was a return of the Bacardi Hilltop Tent, the Bollywood Stage and of course the main stage. But although there were many similarities to last year’s Bestival, the new location at Woodbine Park made Bestival feel very different. The setup of Bestival was great but the location itself was much smaller than the Toronto Islands location. This presented less activites for festival goers to do as they please. However this did not detract from the amount of festival goers this year as there were also many familiar faces in the crowd that returned from last year.
What made Bestival Toronto a success last year was the incredible lineup, unique location and expretise of the Bestival organizers. I enjoyed the second year of Bestival Toronto, but at the end of the two days I was left with wanting more. This year the lineup wasn’t as strong and the location at Woodbine Park was not as impressive as the Toronto Islands. But despite these two issues, Bestival Toronto is still a very fun festival that feels very special and I am looking forward to Bestival Toronto 2017.
